Yay for DOS!

I only wonder what B.C. would think of this find...

You know, I actually wish he would join up, and join the discussion.

I do, too. I don't think I've established enough of a friendship with him, though, to really care that much about us. Maybe we ought to try to befriend and invite him sometime.

I have now turned on the computer and know a little more about it.

It's got a 486DX2 CPU @ 50 MHz. RAM seems to be 640 kb (yes, kilobytes unless I'm missing something) and 15,360 kb extended RAM. I knew the PC wouldn't have a lot of RAM, but for a mid '90s computer, 640 still seems a bit low, which is why it surprised me when I first saw that in BIOS. 50 MHz is kinda low, too, but it's not as shocking. BIOS dates 7/5/94. So yeah, this seems to be a pretty old computer.

It starts up okay, although it says the system battery is dead, and when it tries to boot, it says that it's missing an operating system. I'm going to try using a boot disk and see what happens.

the extended RAM is real RAM. :)

but of course, DOS can't access the extended memory, you need Windows for that. :)

I see. 15-16 MB seems about right for a computer that age. I thought 640 was way too low, lol.

Guess what? Today, I got yet another Packard Bell - and this time, the cabinet style was the same one I was looking for and is in better condition than the one I bought a few days ago! Wow, two Packard Bells in the same month...

Yeah, man, I'd love to show you these comps. I still can't believe I got TWO horizontal PBs within only a few days of each other, lol.

Friday okay with you?
